Syracuse, N.Y. - An authentic Civil War document signed by President Abraham Lincoln will be auctioned today in Syracuse.
The document is Samuel Grissons employment letter when he was commissioned to be a paymaster for the Union Army in the Civil War.
“All it did was hang in a hallway in a home,” explains why Grissons’s great, great, great granddaughter Sedona Brown decided to auction the piece. “I’m very much a history buff and I like the idea of sharing this little piece of history with others.”
The letter was signed in April 1864 by both President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.
The piece is scheduled to hit the auction block around 1pm at the West Genesee United Methodist Church. People may also bid online.
