The Syracuse Police Department is currently investigating a one car crash that occurred on the 300 block of Pine St. near East Genesee St. at about 3:10 PM this afternoon. 


A 2006 Chevy Uplander was headed southbound on Pine St. when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a natural gas release valve causing damage to the valve.  The 43 year old male driver was not injured during the crash, but the intersecting streets are closed to vehicular traffic until the natural gas leak is fixed. 


The cause of the crash is still under investigation and no tickets have been issued at this time.  Pine St. is closed to all vehicular traffic between East Fayette St. and East Genesee St., and East Genesee St. is closed to all vehicular traffic between Comstock Ave. and South Beech St. 


National Grid personnel are on the scene and are working to correct the problem.  Motorists and pedestrians are asked to take the necessary precautions and avoid the area.
