High Court Refuses To Reinstate Alan Jones Sentence For Death of Erin Maxwell
Posted Tuesday, June 11th 2013 @ 6am  by Jim Donovan

The reduced charge of manslaughter brought against Alan Jones for the death of his stepsister Erin Maxwell will stand after New York's Court of Appeals declined to hear the case.

A lower court reduced Jones's second-degree murder conviction to manslaughter because they ruled there wasn't enough evidence to prove Jones acted with "depraved indifference to human life" in Erin Maxwell's death. Both the Oswego County district attorney and Jones's attorneys appealed to the high court - the DA to reinstate the original conviction, and the defense to get the case thrown out. The appeals court denied both requests. Jones will continue to serve the 5 to 15 year prison sentence handed down for the manslaughter conviction.
