Highway Crackdown Nets Thousands Of Tickets

Thousands of New Yorkers got themselves in hot water with the law after a recent highway crackdown in April. The new numbers are now out.

The State of New York will get a real windfall after a crackdown this month on drivers with a lead foot and folks gabbing on thier phones.

Governor Cuomo says nearly 11 thousand speeding tickets were issued ths month during what was known as "Speed Week." State Police officers everywhere pulling drivers over for blowing the speed limit, and that was up two thousand from the year before.

Another 34 hundred tickets were handed out during "Operation Hangup," a crackdown on drivers distracted by their cell phones. That number was up 300 percent over the previous year.

State Police usually hold two of these crackdown each year with another one scheduled for the fall. Each operations lasts eight days.
