Lawsuit Filed by Camillus Residents to Stop Dumping of Waste From Onondaga Lake is Thrown Out By A Judge

(SYRACUSE, N.Y.) A lawsuit filed by the Camillus Clean Air Coalition to stop Honeywell International from dumping waste dredged from Onondaga Lake was  dismissed Wednesday by a federal judge. The judge says federal law does not allow Honeywell's 2006 agreement with state and federal agencies to clean up the lake to be legally challenged while clean-up continues.

Lynda Wade, CCAC spokeperson, says adults and children are suffering with nosebleeds and upper respiratory illness. She says the DEC and Honeywell have denied evidence of health problems pointed out in the Coalition's commissioned report. Wade says Honeywell doesn't dump toxic waste near residences at its other clean-up sites.

The federal judge says Camillus residents can pursue damage claims after the cleanup of Onondaga Lake.
