Employees at one of Onondaga County's largest employers got the news of layoffs today.

80 employees at Lockheed Martin in Salina were informed Wednesday that pink slips are coming and more than 600 workers across the company would also be laid off.

This news comes after word last week that Lockheed was actually considering closing it's Salina plant for good and shifting their employees to other plants around the country.

Senator Chuck Schumer and other local local politicans stepped in though and the company has agreed to hold off any plans to close the local plant for at least a year.

Those politicians say they hope to work with Lockheed officials during the course of the next year to try and convince them to stay in Salina and keep those jobs here.
