SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) _The names of several prominent elected officials in central New York have been removed from the website of a new group formed to oppose any plans to divert the stretch of Interstate 81 that runs through Syracuse.

The group called is opposed to proposals that would reroute I-81 away from its current traffic pattern. One plan being considered by state transportation officials would turn the elevated portion of the highway into a boulevard with stop lights and cross streets.

Members of say such a plan would increase traffic congestion and drive business away from the downtown area.

The group's website initially listed Congressman Dan Maffei and several state lawmakers as members. Their names have since been removed. A spokesman for the group says a "glitch" resulted in their names appearing on the website, but gave no details.
