Parents and students in the North Syracuse School District got a chance to better understand new Common Core standards.
The district held a listening session so parents and their children could sound off about their concerns about Common Core learning standards for English and Math, adopted by the state in 2011. Officials heard that changes are coming too fast and too soon, and that some students are worried they can't keep up. School administrators in turn explained how curriculum is changing to satisfy the standards. Superintendent Annette Speach told the audience the focus will be on good instruction and not on testing.
