Oswego County says it will spray Friday and Saturday evenings to help reduce the mosquito population carrying the EEE virus.
Health department officials say the spraying can't completely eradicate the infected mosquitoes. The hope is that they can reduce their population during the warmest months of the year, and then count on fall and winter's cooler temperatures to do the rest.
Spraying will begin both evenings at 6pm. Health officials suggest:
- Keep pets indoors
- Close vents on window air conditioners so that outside air doesn't enter the home
- Remove outdoor toys, outdoor furniture, and clothing from clotheslines.
- Close car windows and vents while driving through spray area
- Cover gardens or rinse homegrown fruits an vegetables thoroughly before cooking or eating.
