Oswego Mayor's Budget Could Increase Taxes 82%

Oswego's city budget was presented to residents, some of whom could have fainted by what it might cost them.

Mayor Thomas Gillen's proposed budget could send property taxes up nearly 82 percent. Gillen blamed the huge price tag on pensions and less revenue. The city's non-property revenue is projected to drop over 800 thousand dollars. Gillen also says that increased costs mandated by the Affordable Health Care Act are a factor. The Common Council will spend some time going over the budget before another public hearing December 19.
