ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ New York auditors say overtime spending at state agencies needs to be reined in.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says in a report Tuesday that the overtime bill for 2013 was $611 million. That's up nearly 16 percent from the previous year.

The audit shows that 14.8 million overtime hours were filed for in 2013, and DiNapoli says over a seven-year period ending in 2013, overtime was up 27.3 percent.

According to DiNapoli's report, overtime represented nearly 4 percent of the total state payroll last year.
