Phoenix firefighters are asking the town of Schroeppel supervisor to step down while they ponder legal action.
The department has filed a "notice of claim" that names the town board, the town itself, and supervisor Patrick Nugent. The firefighters claim Nugent approached Phoenix firefighter leaders and asked them to sign petitions for his re-election campaign. When the officials declined, saying they were an apolitical organization and don't support any political candidate, Nugent allegedly told them, "Well, I'll remember this at contract time." The legal action is happening just as contract talks are underway. The department has asked the county district attorney to look at possible charges against Nugent.
