Syracuse police say they stopped who they thought was a burglary suspect, but still managed to recover a loaded handgun.
Officers say they responded to a 911 call about a burglary in progress on Wellsley Road. An officer spotted a male matching the description of the burglar walking away from the area where the burglary had occurred. After detaining the suspect, the officer discovered he had a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his possession. The officer also determined this suspect was not the burglary suspect. Police did charge Lamar Sanford with criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to the Justice Center and held for arraignment.
