Politicians and Community Leaders Attempt To Bridge Digital Divide

Posted May 16th, 2014 @ 12:11pm

Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner, State Senator Dave Valesky, and U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei announced Friday the launch of a new coalition aimed at bridging the digital divide.

The coalition, the Alliance for Reliable, Competitive High speed internet (ARCH), will be made up of community members, elected leaders, and business owners advocating for broadband internet policies that support consumers and support economic growth.

“Ensuring everyone in Syracuse has access to quality, competitive telecom services is key to creating the jobs and economy of a twenty first century city,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner. “I’m pleased to stand with fellow community leaders to spread awareness of this important issue.”

The new ARCH coalition will host community education meetings across Syracuse to raise awareness of broadband internet policy issues, including the lack of fiber optic cable throughout the City of Syracuse.
