Former Syracuse Common Councilor Rick Guy says he is considering a run for the 24th Congressional district seat currently held by Democrat Dan Maffei.

Guy, an attorney who also ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the state assembly in 2010, says in a statement that he will decide by October if he plans to challenge Maffei in the 2014 election. Guy's conservative views are similar to those of Ann Marie Buerkle, who defeated Maffei for the seat in 2010, only to lose it to him in 2012. He is the third Republican to express interest in being the party's nominee. Onondaga County Comptroller Bob Antonacci is talking with national Republican figures, and Buerkle herself has said she hasn't ruled out the possibility of another run at Maffei.
