Syracuse police have two men in custody who were arrested for assault and other charges following an attack on a man with his son.

Officers found a 43-year-old male in the 700 block of Butternut Street with a head laceration. He said he was knocked to the ground by a group of about six people while walking with his 9-year-old son. Officers searching the immediate area found and detained two males who they determined were involved in the assault. They were identified as 19-year-old Javon Nichols and 21-year-old Bishop Black, both of Syracuse. They were charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a minor. They were taken to the Justice Center and later arraigned. The adult victim received treatment at the scene; his son was uninjured.
