(Syracuse, NY) On Thursday July 25, 2013 at 12:05pm Officers were sent to the area of Butternut and S. Alvord Streets for a report of a man with gun. When officers arrived in the area they observed a male fitting the suspect’s description who was riding on the front handle bars of a blue bicycle. The suspect, who is now identified as Jonathan Daniels, age 19, was observed by officers holding an object in his waistband as he rode on the bike. Officers pulled up alongside Daniels and the other male on the bike and notified them that they were riding on the wrong side of the street. As the officer opened the car door to exit her patrol car, Daniels jumped from the bike and ran South on Butternut St holding his front waist band area to further suggest he was possibly carrying a firearm.

Several Officers immediately gave chase. Daniels was observed running South on

Butternut St
and West into an alleyway at
1015 Butternut St
toward the backyards. Daniels attempted to jump over a fence but could not, so he turned north and ran back around toward Butternut St heading east. Daniels then ran into an apartment building at 1015 Butternut St and officers chased him up to the stairs where Daniels then jumped out a third floor window. Officers observed Daniels fall to the ground from the window. Officers again ordered him to stop but Daniels immediately got up and began running. An officer then deployed her Taser striking Daniels in the right leg. Daniels immediately dropped to the ground, but then attempted to get back up again to run. Officers then grabbed Daniels arms and placed him under arrest without further incident.

Officers located a loaded a Colt 22 caliber handgun that was tossed by Daniels near

1011 Butternut street
.Daniels was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine.

 Daniels was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, 5th Degree an 7th Degree and issued ticket for Too Many Riders on a Bicycle. He was booked in the Onondaga County Justice center pending his arraignment in Syracuse City Court.
