Syracuse, N.Y. – A third Onondaga County adult has died following complications with the flu.

“Some of the most common associations of people who get really sick and are hospitalized and even die are people who are obese and have diabetes, asthma, or an underlying heart disease,” say Onondaga County health commissioner Dr. Cynthia Morrow.

Officials at the county health office say the individual had other underlying medical conditions. The death in connection to the H1N1 strain was reported earlier today.

The other two that died had also not received their flu shot.

Morrow urges everyone to get the flu shot since it is still widely available. The vaccine does offer protection against the H1N1 strain.
