Syracuse police say a young woman was shot and killed while standing on a city street.

Officers say the 26-year-old woman was standing in the 100 block of West Corning Avenue, and was struck by at least one bullet. She was taken to Upstate University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Connellan says they have limited information about what happened before the shooting, but he says officers are searching for evidence at the crime scene and canvassing for witnesses. Connellan says the victim has not yet been positively identified, and her identity would not be released until next of kin had been notified.
