J Balvin, Katy Perry & Post Malone Set For Pokémon Compilation LP

Pokémon is celebrating their 25-year anniversary with a massive compilation album featuring J Balvin, Katy Perry, Post Malone and more.

After Malone wrapped up his virtual Pokémon concert on Saturday (February 27), a title card ended the show with Balvin and Perry's names. Rolling Stone reported that the pair is contributing original music to an upcoming 14-song set called Pokémon 25: The Album. The collection will include 14 tracks from 11 different Universal Music Group acts and drop this fall via Capitol Records.

"We're gonna come up with a crazy song. It’s going to catch everybody’s ear,” Balvin told Rolling Stone of the upcoming Spanish song, which will be produced by Tainy and Sky. He is currently sifting through sounds from the franchise's games and TV episodes for inspiration. "It's easy to make a Pokémon song if you just want that fan base, but we’re not close-minded. We want everybody to vibe with Pokémon."

Balvin went on to talk about the Pokémon brand, admitting that the franchise has become somewhat of a religion for many. "In a beautiful way… They love it, they know what they want, and they know every single detail about the game," he continued. "I would never do something that doesn’t translate to my identity."

Aside from his contribution to the upcoming set, Balvin recently dropped "Ma G," the first offering from his upcoming album. The track was performed for the first time on Saturday when Balvin accompanied boxer Canelo Alvarez into the ring for the Alvarez/Avni Yildirim fight at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Balvin and Perry's upcoming songs will see placement alongside Malone's cover of Hootie & the Blowfish's "Only Wanna Be With You." Perry, Balvin and an as-yet-to-be announced star will see music videos for their tracks dropping later this year, as well as "exclusive merchandise collection(s) celebrating each artist and Pokémon in its 25th anniversary year."
