The family of Staff Sergeant Barnard McNamara is thrilled to have his Purple Heart back after being lost sometime after McNamara died in 1975. The man who found it in Nyack, New York tried for awhile to look for the owner but temporarily gave up. Fortunately, he gave it to a veteran who worked with the military and Senator Chuck Schumer's office and finally tracked down McNamara's family. They are overjoyed to have the medal. McNamara's grandson says, "To have this Purple Heart returned to us after so many years is incredibly special. This was a piece of who my grandfather truly was."
