Let me first state that I am very hard to actually impress with music. I'm a snob. It's true.
If you know me, you know I have a rather extensive taste in music. A common playlist for me looks like this: Lady Gaga, Montley Crue, Chainsmokers, Rise Against, Pink, Zach Brown, Foo Fighters, Queen, Pitbull.
Yeah, I'm all over the place, just like you, and proud of it.
Historically, I am not a Harry Styles kinda guy. One Direction was... a pop band. A great one. Not my favorite, but I totally get it.
Harry Styles going solo was inevitable. His new album is out today. I expected the usual: dance music, pop stuff, lots of saying, "girl."
I was wrong. At least, when it comes to his first single I am.
His new song "Sign of the Times" is... stunning.
It's not pop music at all. It's rock. Slow, classic type rock that sounds similar to Pink Floyd, and and has an actual message that is timely.
It's INCREDIBLE, in my humble opinion. And it totally shocked me.
It's the type of song from the type of artist that could shift the entire pop music landscape for a decade.
We are, after all, overdue for a shift in people's musical preferences. It happens every decade or so, and as we reach the end of this decade it's probably time for it to happen again.
Give it a listen... I'm very curious as to what you think. It's so different from what is popular right now, from the biggest artist in the world at this moment.
