RIP Chris Cornell

I'll never forget the first time I heard Chris Cornell.

It was on MTV... ya know? When they played music videos...

Crazy they did that, right?

Anyway, it was this crazy, demented video for "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden...

The song is odd, uncomfortable, and for me it was and is amazing.

Chris Cornell was one of the great rock voices of all time. To me, of all the 90s and grunge rock bands, he was far and away THE best vocalist.

His range, his tone, his story telling and writing, and his ability to crossover into different genres and sounds were incredible. He transcended music formats.

This is a guy who pioneered grunge, and also wrote the theme for James Bond...

52 years old. That's how old he was.

It's too young.

It's yet another artist we've lost too soon, and it feels like it's happening too often, doesn't it?

David Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Glenn Frey, John Berry, Joey Feek... all way too early.

Back to Chris though. His work in Audioslave was very influential to me personally. It helped me in many ways, especially "I Am The Highway"

We're down to one of the founding voices of grunge: Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. That's it.

Music has moved on largely from the grunge, which stinks for people like me, who wish those days would return. But the artists never die.

Chris Cornell will be saying hello from Heaven, pun intended, and live on forever through his amazing music. Speaking of...

Rest in peace, Chris. We'll miss you.
