Keep Mosquitos Away with These Plants

ZIKA, and other viruses, carried by mosquitos are scary. If you're anything like me though, the chemicals in bug sprays are also scary.

Woman's Day put together a list of herbs and plants, aside from the obvious citronella, that mosquitos are not fans of...

1. Lavender - Specifically, look for the lavandin variety since it works the best. It smells nice too, so it's a win win!

2. Lemon balm - It smells great and promotes relaxation.

3. Basil - I LOVE basil, so having it growing around the yard just makes me want to cook more, which is never a bad thing!

4. Catnip - A win for your kitty too!

5. Mint - You can make a mojito with it while sitting on your mosquito free deck.

More on all of this here: Woman's Day

Also, this has worked for us on the deck: fans. The mosquito doesn't weigh much, and has a tough time flying in high winds. So, on a hot day, bring out some fans and have them blow the pesky bugs away.

Don't forget to get rid of standing water around your property. I've read that dropping used coffee grounds into big puddles, regularly, makes mosquitoes go away.
