Girl Graduates After Spending 200+ Days in Hospital
A high school senior, Jenny Spell, who spent over 200 days in the hospital recovering from a bad flu just graduated -- and on time! When the Spell was admitted, doctors weren’t so sure she would make it through the night. While regaining strength, learning how to walk again and having a kidney transplant, she was taking online classes to graduate with her class. Spell was able to go back to school, got crowned homecoming queen and will be attending the University of Florida in the fall, studying pre-pharmacy. A 12-year-old girl is recovering thanks in part to the Hunger Games! The Massachusetts girl was playing with her friends, slipped and got an extremely large cut. Her friend sprang into action remembering a tourniquet method from the book. She was able to stop the blood flow around the injury. The girl was taken to the hospital and had to have surgery, but is expected to make a full recovery.
A Marine vet who lost his legs in Afghanistan is waking up in a new house today. The double amputee was living in a small apartment with his wife, but thanks to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers foundation, he has a brand new handicap-accessible smart house. The house has automated appliances controlled by an iPad, pull-down cabinets and a roll-in shower.
