Byrne Dairy will tear down an unused part of the Crucible steel mill next to the Fair to build a new convenience store and gas station, according to a company official.
Construction should be done by June.
GOOD. Here's the thing, and I've said this many time son the show: I love that Crucible is doing business here and hope they continue to do so.
It's an eyesore that stands out, big time, right next to our primary tourist attraction: The Fair. Some people may wear how dirty that building looks as a badge of honor. I don't.
This building makes an AWFUL first impression to people coming to visit. If you don't see it you're buried under years of acceptance, and I beg of you to wake up.
Look, every city in this region of the world has rust, but that doesn't mean we should have that problem right next to our biggest asset.
I've been calling for beautification of the Crucible building for years now, and this Byrne Dairy is a start.
