Get out of your comfort zone.
I did it this weekend when Y94 presented Kevin mcDonald and Friends with Salt City Improv at Sharkey's.
I had never done improv before but always wanted to. I love sketch comedy. But I was a giant, scared pansey who was worried more about screwing up then having fun.
That all changed when a business card I gave to a member of SSI, Lindsey, 2 years ago popped up. I had given the card to her hoping maybe Salt City Improv would want to do something with our station in the future, and it turns out they did! They invited me to not only host the event, but be part of the actual improv class with Kevin McDOnald, who of course became famous for being in Kids in the Hall.
That forced my hand LOL. I HAD to do this finally. So... I did. And I loved it. I loved it so much I'm joining them... seriously.
I want to thank Jeff Kinsler, who runs Salt City, for being inviting, hilarious and thinking of Y94 and me.
I want to thank Lindsey for remembering my business card 2 years later!
I want to thank Renee, Jon and Dave for making me look good on stage for our skit together.
And to all the members of Salt City Improve, thank you for making me feel comfortable, confident, and like I belonged. You're all amazingly talented people.
If you're looking to try some improv... which BTW is a GREAT way to work on public speaking and your communications skills, they have their 100 level course starting up May 14th. More info here:
