Local Couple Fake Son's Cancer for Money

A couple in Port Byron are accused of faking their son’s cancer diagnosis in order to collect donations and meet the Syracuse Football team.

Martin and Jolene LaFrance are facing fraud charges after setting up a GoFundMe account for their son, CJ, who they said had cancer. His uncle even posted on the GoFundMe Page (which has been deleted) that CJ was upgraded to stage 3 cancer and that a tumor in his abdomen was not improving.

Police say a long investigation revealed that the child  does not have cancer.

Martin and Jolene LaFrance allegedly collected over $3-thousand in donations.

CJ and his family members also attended a Syracuse football practice as special guests last August.

Martin and Jolene LaFrance - both 35 - are charged with first-degree scheme to defraud and endangering the welfare of a child.
