TikTok's Addison Rae Drops Dance-Heavy Video For Debut Single 'Obsessed'

No joke, we’re obsessed with Addison Rae’s new song.

This Friday (March 19), the TikTok sensation made a major splash with the release of her debut single “Obsessed,” a cocky and confident dance-pop jam that has all the mechanisms of a post-pandemic club banger. Rae’s lane-switch into music terrain, however risky, pays off well with an uptempo Benny Blanco-produced beat that sounds tailor-made for the dance floor.

Although popularly known for going viral on social media, Rae knows how to set herself apart from her peers. She proves this in the song’s accompanying music video, which sees the 20-year-old breaking a sweat with some intensive, synchronized choreography — never missing a single beat.

“I'm obsessed with me-e-e as much as you / Say you’d die for me I’d die for me-e too / And if I lost you, I’d still have me, I can’t lose / When you say that you’re obsessed with me, me too,” Rae sings on the conceited chorus.

“One could take it as being vainly obsessed with yourself, but that’s not what I’m trying to communicate,” Rae told Vogue about creating her first song. “It’s more I can love myself as much as you love me, and that’s important. There are days where I struggle, and it’s definitely a work in progress to accept who I am and give myself the love I deserve. But that message was so strong, and I wanted to communicate it [in the lyrics].”

As far as taking pride in writing her own music, Rae says she’s inspired by superstar singer-songwriters Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and Katy Perry. “From the beginning, I wanted to make sure that I was writing my own music,” she explained. “I remember jotting down lyrics when I was little and trying to figure out how to make them a song, [now] I’m learning every detail and from amazing songwriters.”
