Days after Zac Efron was mysteriously hospitalized following a "swimming incident" in Spain, new details have been revealed that shed light on what led to the scary situation.
According to a report published by TMZ on Monday (August 5), Efron was enjoying an early morning swim in the pool of his Ibiza villa with friends on Saturday (August 3) when he dove too deep into the water and hit his chest on the bottom of the pool. The impact reportedly caused the High School Musical alum to "[ingest] a large amount of water into his lungs" and begin showing "signs of distress," per Page Six.
Sources told the outlet that Efron was briefly dazed by the incident and taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure where he received a chest X-ray to confirm all the water was out of his lungs. Though he was cleared to be released from the hospital only hours later, he reportedly stayed longer because news of his hospitalization got out and photographers were waiting outside.
After being released from the hospital, the Hairspray star appeared in good spirits as he addressed fans' concerns by sharing a shirtless photo of himself working out on his Instagram Stories, letting his followers know he was "happy and healthy" and thanking everyone "for the well wishes."
