Vertical Horizon, the popular alternative rock band, is set to perform at the New York State Fair for the first time since 2001. The band will take the stage at Chevy Court on Friday, August 29, at 1 p.m. Their performance is part of the Fair's Chevrolet Music Series, which offers free concerts with admission.
Vertical Horizon, formed in 1991 by Matt Scannell and Keith Kane, gained fame with their platinum-selling album "Everything You Want." The album's title track topped the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Top 40 charts in 2000. The band also had hits with "You're a God" and "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)." Although Kane left the band in 2010, Scannell continues to lead as the vocalist and guitarist, joined by Ron LaVella, Mark Pacificar, and John Wesley.
The New York State Fair, running from August 20 to September 1, features a diverse lineup of over 40 national acts. According to the Fair's website, all concerts are included with the price of admission, which is $8 for adults, with discounts available. Fair Director Julie LaFave expressed excitement about bringing back artists like Vertical Horizon to offer fairgoers a nostalgic experience.
Syracuse.com reports that the Fair will host two daily concerts at Chevy Court and an evening show at Suburban Park. The event is part of New York's strategy to boost tourism and the economy in Central New York.
