New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that the team planned to keep Russell Wilson as its starting quarterback ahead of its Week 2 game against the NFC East Division rival Dallas Cowboys.

"After a game -- it's an emotional game, tough game," Daboll said during his press conference on Monday (September 8) via NFL.com. "Didn't play particularly well, I would say collectively, but in terms of making any of those decisions -- really at any position or schematic changes -- I'd like to do it with a clear head and watch the tape. Again, like I said yesterday, that game doesn't fall on Russell Wilson. We got to do a better job collectively; coaching, playing. But Russ will be the starter."

Wilson threw for 168 yards on 17 of 37 passing, while also recording a team-high 44 yards on eight rushing attempts during Sunday's (September 7) 21-6 loss to the NFC East Division rival Washington Commanders. The Giants offense was held out of the end zone, having only scored on two field goals by Graham Gano.

Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal to join the Giants as a free agent on March 26, five days prior to fellow veteran quarterback Jameis Winston signing a two-year, $8 million deal and one month prior to the team selecting former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
