Syracuse Hancock International Airport is bracing for one of the busiest travel days of the year as holiday travelers fill the terminals. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates screening over 17.8 million passengers nationwide from Tuesday (November 25) to Tuesday (December 2), with Syracuse among the busiest airports in Upstate New York during this period. TSA recommends arriving at least two hours before flight departures and checking in early online or via airline apps to streamline the process.
The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) expects nearly 60,000 travelers to pass through the airport for Thanksgiving travel, with over 8,000 passengers arriving and departing daily. The recent completion of a multi-year Terminal Expansion Project has added new gates and seating areas, enhancing the airport's capacity to handle increased passenger numbers. New food and beverage options, such as Qdoba Mexican Eats and Einstein Bros. Bagels, have also been introduced to improve the travel experience.
According to SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri, "From spacious and ample seating at the gates to tasty new food and beverage options, our guests will enjoy an elevated holiday travel experience this year." Travelers are encouraged to pre-book parking online and monitor real-time availability to ensure a smooth experience.
The TSA advises travelers to review their carry-on items for prohibited materials and utilize the "What can I bring?" tool on the myTSA app. Passengers should also follow food safety guidelines, especially if carrying perishable items.
