Oswego County is preparing for significant snowfall as a Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service. The watch will be in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday (December 13) until 1 p.m. Sunday (December 14). Forecasters predict heavy lake effect snow, with accumulations potentially reaching seven inches or more in the most persistent snow bands.

The National Weather Service warns that travel could become very difficult or even impossible at times, as snow-covered roads and poor visibility will create hazardous conditions. According to the Democrat and Chronicle, areas east of Lake Ontario, including Oswego County, could see up to two feet of snow by the end of the weekend.

Residents are advised to prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. Syracuse.com reports that the snow could lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility, impacting travel plans. The weather service recommends that drivers plan their routes carefully and consider avoiding travel if possible.

In addition to heavy snowfall, wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected, which could further reduce visibility and create drifting snow. Yahoo News notes that the snow will likely fall at a rate of two to three inches per hour during the heaviest bands.

Residents should ensure their vehicles are equipped with winter supplies and check road conditions before traveling. The National Weather Service advises caution and preparedness to ensure safety during this winter storm.
