Central New York is bracing for more snow today, with forecasters predicting precipitation from this morning into the late evening. Some areas could see up to six inches of snow before the system moves out. This comes as residents are still dealing with the aftermath of a recent lake-effect storm that dumped feet of snow in the North Country and Tug Hill plateau.

According to the National Weather Service, northern Onondaga and southern Oswego counties could receive over a foot of snow today. In a small pocket of Oswego County near Lake Ontario, snowfall could reach three feet or more. The Buffalo area is also expected to get a foot of fresh snow.

The recent storm has already caused significant disruptions. Oswego County has been particularly hard-hit, with some towns receiving up to four feet of snow since New Year’s Day. Businesses have closed, and residents have been trapped inside, as reported by Yahoo News. Local fire departments have struggled to respond to emergencies due to blocked roads and snow-covered fire hydrants.

In Syracuse, the city experienced its second snowiest day on record with 24.2 inches falling on December 30. The city has seen over six feet of snow so far this season. The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings and lake effect snow warnings for parts of nine Upstate counties, urging drivers to stay off the roads due to near-zero visibility and deep snow cover.

The lake effect snow is expected to continue impacting the region, with additional snowfall predicted for areas north of the Thruway. Residents are advised to clear snow from vents and watch out for powerlines to prevent carbon monoxide buildup and other hazards.
